About This Item
New York. Horace Liveright. 1928. Pictorial gilt decorated black cloth. 4to. Edition Limited to 2050 numbered sets of which this is #1607. Illustrated with tissue-guarded illuminated colour and monochromatic High Art Deco plates by Jean De Bosschere. De Bosschere is, in our opinion, one of the great "undiscovered" 20th century illustrators. His work during the 1920's represented the purest realization of Art Deco, often, through the use of illuminated chromatics, to startling result. Such is the case with this book. His Jazz Age erotic interpretation of Aristophanes is the perfect model of Art Deco design and sensibility. Repairs to front hinges, else a Near Fine set in like dustwrappers. A lovely set.
