About This Item
Boston, Massachusetts: Bedlington, 1828. Hardcover. Fair. 24mo 5" - 6" tall. An early reprint, translated into English from the original French of Sophie Cottin (22 March 1770 â 25 August 1807), a French writer "whose novels were popular in the 19th century, and [that] were translated into several different languages" (Wikipedia). She met and married her first husband in Jean-Paul-Marie Cottin, a banker, and published Elizabeth; or, the Exiles of Siberia (Elisabeth ou les Exilés de Sibérie) first in 1806 (Nuttall). Her first husband died in her early twenties, she went to live with relatives and died very young. A perfectly serviceable reference copy; nothing fancy, but complete and sturdy, bound in leather over boards, moderate rubbing to tips and edges, scuffing to spine and loss of leather there, gilt decorations at spine. Moderate foxing of endpapers front and rear, dissipating in both directions, generally clean and unmarked of interior. Some lovely black-and-white engraved plates at frontis.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
