First edition thuis, facsimile reissue of the original 1926 edition which in turn was an adaptation of Edward Topsell's "Historie of Foure-Footed Beastes" (1607) and "Historie of Srpents" (1608) with a dash of a 1601 version of Pliny's "Natural History". Cloth, 171 pps. Illustrated with reproductions of antique woodcuts and engravings. Enchanting adaptation of Elizabethan natural history that introduces many fabulos beasts familiar only through myths and folk tales as well as familiar old friends presented in a very different light. No distinction is made between the real and the imaginary, so we are presented with cats, unicorns, lions, and gorgons, dolphins and dragons, etc. Fine in bright, fine, price clipped dust jacket.
