About This Item

Santa Fe, NM: Twin Palms Publishing, 1994. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. As New/As New Dust Jacket.. Santa Fe, NM: Twin Palms Publishing, 1994. Hardcover. As New/As New. First Edition/First Printing. Unpaginated. The artist/photographer's breakthrough debut collection. Now considered a contemporary erotic art photography classic. Limited Edition of 6000 copies. Precedes and should not be confused with the Second Edition. Published as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now rare. A brilliant production by Sam Shahid: Oversize-volume format. The book weighs 3 pounds. Black cloth boards with titles embossed on spine, as issued. Photographs by Ellen von Unwerth. Brief Introduction by Ingrid Sischy. Printed in gravure on thick, uncoated stock paper in Tokyo, Japan to the highest standards. The reproduction quality is outstanding in every respect: The pages demand to be caressed (ever so gently), restoring the sense of touch to one's experience of the book. In pictorial DJ with white titles on the spine, as issued. Presents Ellen von Unwerth's "Snaps". "Bleed" snapshots and portraits of the sexiest men and women who populate the private and public worlds of von Unwerth. Many of the subjects are well-known icons like Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Madonna, Lenny Kravitz (in a celebrated nude shot showing his tattooed butt), Claudia Schiffer, Stephanie Seymour, Ivana Trump, Isabella Rossellini, Drew Barrymore (who is unrecognizable as a Balthus-inspired model on a sofa), Annie Lennox, RuPaul, and Karin Mulder. But there are just as many who are simply called "strangers" as well as friends and family known only to Ellen von Unwerth. There are some explicit shots, a few disturbing ones, and many playfully erotic pictures that owe a debt to Helmut Newton, but are stamped with Ellen von Unwerth's singular blend of eroticism, stylishness, and "femme fatale" naughtiness. An absolute "must-have" title for Ellen von Unwerth collectors. This is a copy of the First Limited Edition of 6000 copies. This title is a contemporary erotic art photography classic. It sold out shortly after publication and was reissued in a Second Edition, which is also now scarce. As far as we know, this is the only copy of the First Limited Edition available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Copies available online have serious flaws, are subsequent printings, or are remainder-marked. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare copy thus. 120 sheetfed gravure plates. One of the most brilliant artist/photographers of our time. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER ELLEN VON UNWERTH TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 0944092292.
