Ainslie Conway (1893 -), veteran of foreign wars against Moros in the Philippines, Pancho Villa in Mexico, and the Bonches at Chateau-Thierry and Belleau Wood, was seriouslu ill after a bout of working as a miner. Frances could only take on jobs as cook or gardner until school began and she could resume teaching highschool English. Down-and-out, the Conways focused on the Galapagos with dreams of living in the Encantadas for six months, which became 5 years and permanent.
