A book addressed to the youth by Jean-Nicolas Bouilly, French playwright, librettist, children's writer, and politician of the French Revolution. He is best known for his libretto concerned with a woman disguised as a man to rescue her husband from prison, inspiration for Beethoven's opera 'Fidelio.'A new edition of this work. Rebound in full calf with four raised bands, titles in gilt to morocco spine label, marbled edges and endpapers. Externally with bumping to head and tail of spine, rubbed to joints and extremities, boards lightly marked. Previous ownership ink inscription to verso front free endpaper, undated. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally very clean throughout. Good

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
