About This Item
Columbia, Ohio, Columbia Press, 1932. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good. Pictorial red cloth, very good. First edition. Guns 1974: Scarce. It contains material on Billy the Kid.She was not afraid of him (Billy the Kid), she says, because she had met him earlier in Trinidad and had done him a favor for which he had promised never to bother her. She claims to have visited the Kid in jail May 16, 1882, nearly a year after his death, and she records his death as September 8, 1882. She says it was only then that she learned that his true name was William H. Bonney. His death, she says, ends the career of one who began his downward course at the age of twelve years by taking revenge for the insult that had been offered to his mother. The reprint omits some material that appears in the first printing. Dykes, Kid 181: Sister Blandina nursed a member of the Kids gang and saved the lives of Trinidads doctors by getting the grateful Kid to grant her a favor. The favor, of course, was the sparing of the lives of the doctors. The true first edition of this important Billy the Kid book is very elusive, not to be confused with the reprint issued by Bruce Publishing.
