About This Item
New York: D. Appleton and Company, 1880. Here is the last novel, a romance, published by Benjamin Disraeli (1804-1881), noted as Victoria's favorite Prime Minister but also a popular novelist. He was created Earl in 1876. This is a Very Good copy of the First American Edition. Decorative red cloth binding with heraldic decorations in black and gilt. Gilt lettering on the spine. Clean text; 477 pages, with two pages of publisher's adverts in the rear. Very bright and unfoxed; easily read. Floral endpapers. There is a faint penciled signature, and the remains of what appears to have been a newspaper clipping regarding "Endymion"on the front paste-down. The previous-owner has made occasional. really unobtrusive, notes in the text. Laid into page 363 is an interesting contemporary clipping regarding the possible plagiarism by the author from Irving's "Annals of Our Time.". There is bumping and rubbing at the margins. A solid copy, but rather worn-looking, and not for the advanced collector. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First American Edition.. Decorative Cloth. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
