Clavel at the Peacock in Fleetstreet, and T. Minton, at the Anchor under the Royal Exchange." The author, James Whiston (1637?-1707), criticizes the generally accepted practice of selling offices, in particular the gaolership of Newgate Prison. ESTC R15115; Wing W1686. Scarce. In Good+ Condition: title page lightly soiled; closed 1-cm. tear from fore-edge of title page; creasing and chipping along fore-edges of first few leaves; minor soiling along edges of final few leaves; otherwise, clean and solid.
