First Edition. 4to. a run of nine uniformally bound volumes; comprising of nine complete years of 1883-1884, 1884 -1885, 1885-1886, 1886-1887, 1887-1888, 1888-1889, 1889-1890, 1890-1891, 1991-1892. Fine b/w woodcut engravings throughout by numerous engravers such as Butler, Orme and Waterlow. Bound in half leather, five raised bands with gilt ruled lines, blind stamping to the spine compartments , two spine labels with gilt numbers and lettering, privately bound for Clara J. Grenfell Sept 1894with her initials are at the base of the spines, very good, some slight cracking to a few joints, now carefully conserved to prevent further cracking, leather with some general wear, corners a little worn, some scuffed areas, spines have five raised bands each with gilt ruled decoration, two spine labels with gilt titling, all edges with speckled marbling, Contents clean and tight, no inscriptions, very few spots tot he first and last few pages, otherwise generally clean with minimal handling wear. [Noteable condition points, 1884 name, Clara J. Grenfell to the front free endpaper, 1886 slight variation in the binding, a little worm damge to leather, 1888 crack repaired to the rear joint, 1890 leather repair to the base of the spine, 1891 rear joint glued and may have been detached at some point]. A very good to near fine set in a handsome decorative leather binding. A heavy set - a small postal surcharge may apply..
