A rare early issue of this seminal 1960s little magazine, entirely devoted to work by John Wieners. An unmarked copy (aside from stray doodle to front leaf), folder shadowing to front leaf (which has edge folds), a little marginal staining. (First two leaves are most worn.)

This scarce offprint was issued to correct the mis-printings to the text of the article that had just appeared in the first issue of the magazine "transition." (Wilson A10). Stein insisted on the printing of this supplementary pamphlet, but only enough copies to supply subscribers were printed; these were laid-in to copies of the first printing of the magazine issue. First edition, with publisher's review slip tipped-in at the front. x,69 pp. Slim octavo, black cloth, gilt lettering at spine. A near fine copy; faint foxing to endpapers, and few spots of marginal soiling, else clean and crisp. In a dust jacket which is heavily foxed, being more apparent on the thin strip of white at the fold-in of the upper panel and on the white lower panel, shows light edgewear, and has a closed tear at the lower fold-in. Lowell's second book, containing "The Quaker Garveyard in Nantucket," it was greeted with critical acclaimn.

Small 8vo. 112pp. Yellow pebbled cloth, a little marked, handled and soiled, lettered and ruled in gold at the upper board and with a small gilt vignette of the sun. Blind rule to the rear board. Some spotting to the endpapers and, lightly, to occasional text leaves. Binding just a little tender in places. A nice bright copy. With the bookplates of noted bibliophile and bibliographic scholar Simon Novel-Smith and his wife Judith Adams. Fifty-one poems. Extremely uncommon..

Pages are untrimmed. In attractive modern slipcase covered in red and black paper; gilt-tooled title on slipcase spine: Battle of Waterloo. List of 274 subscribers, (pp. 107-111) with the number of copies each ordered (where more than one), includes Czar Alexander I of Russia; King William I of the Netherlands; King Frederick William III of Prussia; Commander-in-chief of British forces, Field Marshal Frederick, Duke of York and Albany; and the Duke of Wellington. Inscription dated 1833 on front fixed endpaper. Although this poem is frequently attributed to the Poet Laureate William Whitehead, he died in 1785, 30 years before the Battle of Waterloo.
