About This Item

Washington, DC: The International Hajji Baba Society, Inc, 1975. Softcover. G+ (spine beginning to come unglued, few small notations throughout text, ex-lib. stamp and sticker on back cover, all pages intact). Tan card wraps with pink carpet design and lettering. Unpaginated with approx. v, 6, 100 unnumbered pp. and bw images throughout. Catalogue from the 1975 Christmas Exhibition of the International Hajji Baba Society, Inc. Included are an introduction about Ersari history and the 3 types of rugs: Beshir, Afghan and Kizil Ayak; a bibliography, the gallery of rugs exhibited and a map of Turkoman country. Although the title mentions rugs, there are many examples of camel bags and trappings, saddle bags (for horses/donkeys), tent pole covers, and other decorative weavings used in everyday life. Even in b/w, this is a lovely catalogue and an excellent resource for anyone who collects or is otherwise interested in these kinds of textiles.
