Basil: Printed and fold by J. J. Tourneisen, 1800. Hardcover. Very Good. Signed by George Lyman Kittredge on flyleaf. One-quarter calf with tortoise-shell paper sides and green corner-tips; tooled spine. Marbled endpapers. 8vo. 96 pages. Front matter includes the Preface to the Second Edition (1767) and the Advertisement prefixed to the Third Edition (1789). George Lyman Kittredge's copy. Kittredge (1860-1941) was a Harvard professor, best known for his authoritative edition of Shakespeare's works. Also, inscribed ''Ex Libris / Antonio Alfredo Giarraputo / et amicorum / 28.VIII.57''. Antonio ''Tony'' Giarraputo (1923-1989) was born in Boston, served in WWII, graduated from Harvard in 1950, and studied in Florence, Italy, as a Fulbright fellow. He was a known poet in Boston, and taught in its schools for more than two decades, including at the Boston Latin School, English High School (his alma mater), and the Lincoln School.
