William Coker was one of the sterling group of faculty colleagues who, by virture of superior scholarship, brought the University of North Carolina into the national and international community of learning. Dr, Coker was responsible for the establishement and developement of the Coker Arboretum and Botannical Gardens. He also volunteered to landscape public area, including public schools, an Ashville cemetery, and a library at Edenton, among others. This book was written as part of the celebration of the Coker Arboretum Centennial at Chapel Hill in 2003. Book contains nine essays and an epilogue on the legacy of Dr. Coker. Also includes two appendices: one on plants named by Dr. Coker, the other on his publications. 197pp. First Edition, first printing stated. Notes, bibliography, b&w photos and drawings, index. Short note on front free endpaper to Alumni member who apparently contributed funds to Arboretum and Gardens. Signed by Mary Coker Joslin and illustrator Sandra Brooks-Mathers on title page. Book is clean and tight and appears new. Not markings or soiling. A wonderful tribute to an important botanist and professor who contributed much to the state of North Carolina
