Hard Cover. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall Used Extremely rare American children's book by the author of "True Tales of the Olden Time", illustrated with ealborate plates. The text is based on Johne and Berners, and is intended "to encourage our young readers to think for themselves...". Original brown cloth decorated in gilt and blind (spine perished with boards pulling away; heavy wear to edges of boards; owner's ink signature and pencil inscription - Dec. 25th, 1842, Philadelphia, of Lavinia Horstmann- plates subtly browning with occasional foxing to text). Extremely rare. .
