London: Hodder and Stoughton. 1976. First edition, first printing. First edition, first printing. Signed by Chris Bonington and Doug Scott. Original blue cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. Illustrated throughout with colour photographs. A very good copy, the binding square and tight, the cloth with a few marks, the contents clean throughout and without previous owners' inscriptions. Complete with the very lightly rubbed and creased dustwrapper which is a little faded to the spine. Not price-clipped (£6.95 to the front flap). Signed on the title page by Doug Scott in black ink and Chris Bonington in blue ink. Christ Bonington's account of the first successful ascent of the Southwest Face of Mount Everest which he led in 1975 and saw Doug Scott and his climbing partner Dougal Haston become the first Britons to set foot on the summit. Five unsuccessful attempts at the Southwest Face route had previously been made, including another led by Bonington in 1972 which failed due to poor weather.
