About This Item
New York: Macmillan, 1961. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. Signed by Author(s). 1st Edition. Stated first printing. The DJ has minor edgewear, and is unclipped. The red topstain is a bit faded. Red cloth boards with a black spine. Four or five pages have minor underlining. Presents nicely in a mylar provided cover. Professor Quigley was a Bill Clinton mentor at Georgetown. Quigley's theme of "future preference" was a central tenet used in Clinton's nomination speech of Mike Dukakis at the 1988 Democratic National Convention. The Evolution of Civilizations was the text for a freshman year history course which was required for all students in the School of Foreign Service. This is Quigley's first book, he later wrote "Tragedy and Hope." The book is signed in full, inscribed and dated May 1962 to a student. This would have been at the end of the first semester in which Quigley used the book for his freshman couse, The Development of Civilizations. Another ownership name and date are above this inscription which is boldly made out in ink. Very Rare Signed! Included with the book is a lengthy interview with Quigley from the mid 1970s just before his death with an unnamed Washington Post reporter in which he talks about the publication of the book, current affairs, the attempts by MacMillan to suppress subsequent editions, the controversy elicited by his work and calls Henry Kissinger a "Prima Donna." The CD is in MP3 format. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
