Controversy regarding the uproar made underclassman at the University of Pennsylvania made when their preceptor John Redman Coxe (1773-1864) was removed. Coxe was a respected Philadelphia physician. He gave aid during Philadelphia's Yellow Fever epidemic in 1793 and helped to eliminate the stigma of vaccination. He was considered the founder of medical journalism (Kelly & Burrage).
