New York: Harpers, The Century Co., A.L Burt, Grosset & Dunlap , 1912. A wonderful collection of 11 Hollywood Association Copies. Rupert Hughes was the uncle of Howard Hughes and a prolific novelist, film director, and Oscar-nominated Hollywood screen writer. Will H. Hays managed Warren G. Hardings successful campaign for the Presidency of the U.S. and was subsequently appointed Postmaster General. After a year in that position, he resigned to become most famously known as the first President of Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America (MPPDA), which under his guidance published a blacklist of actors and workers studios should not hire, inserted moral clauses into actors' contracts, and published an informal list of suggested guidelines for film producers. When the Catholic Church formed its Legion of Decency and threatened nationwide boycotts of movies, Hays installed a more formal production code, called the Hays Code( later simply "The Code"), which became the virtual law of Hollywood until the 1960s. The 11 books are SIGNED AND INSCRIBED variously "To Will Hays...from his devoted friend...the eternal boy...from his devoted admirer...with the affection of...with the admiration of...with the high respect and warm friendship of..."etc. The 11 titles are : "The Last Rose of Summer" (Harpers, NY, 1914, 1st, NF/NF), "Clipped Wings" (Harpers, NY, later ptg., 1916, NF/NF) "What Will People Say?" (Harpers, NY, 1st, 1914, VG/None), "The Old Nest" ( Century Co, NY, 1st, 1912, VG/None), "The Lovely Ducklings" (A.L. Burt, NY, reprint, 1928, NF/NF), "The Lakerim Athletic Club"( Century Co., NY, reprint, 1925, NF/NF), "The Old Home Town"( A.L. Burt, NY, reprint, 1926, NF/NF), "In a Little Town" (A.L. Burt, NY, reprint, 1917, VG/None), "The Unpardonable Sin"(Harpers, NY, 1918, 1st, VG/None), "Momma and Other Unimportant People"( Harpers, NY, 1st, 1920, VG/None), and ""She Goes to War"(Grosset & Dunlap, NY, reprint, 1929, NF/VG+. . Description:
New York: The Limited Editions Club. Near Fine. 1995. Limited Edition. Hardcover. 1st Edition. Revelation was written at the height of Christians prosecution by the Romans and the book as inspired many past literary masterpieces by the likes of Dante and Milton. For this edition the great American artist Allan Rohan Crite was inspired to produce fifteen relief engravings for possibly the ultimate illustrated edition of the book of Revelations. Revelations passionately speak against the power of evil and encourage Christians to resist even at the cost of martyrdom. Many critics considers this to be Crite's finest religious work. One volume (16 x 22 inches) Relief engravings were printed on Japanese paper and mounted on heavy paper handmade in Pescia Italy. Volume is handbound in burgundy linen and the solander box covered in black Italian cotton. The inset is Nigerian goatskin and the title stamped in 22-karat gold. The book is in NF condition with a few slight marks visible on the… Read More
