London: Published by J. Hatchard, 1809. xvi, 291pp, [1]. With half-title and a list of subscribers. Contemporary speckled calf, contrasting red morocco lettering-piece, gilt. Rubbed, slight splitting to joints, occasional spotting, ink gift inscription dated 1814 to head of title-page. The first edition of Louisa A. Marshall's translation of select devotional and moral writings by French Roman Catholic archbishop and theologian Francois de Salignac de La Mothe-Fenelon (1651-1715). Biographical details for Marshall are frustratingly minimal; this was seemingly her only printed work besides a translation of extracts from the works of Thomas A Kempis (London, 1812). . First edition. 8vo.
