About This Item

Extracts of Several Letters of Mordach Mackenzie, M.D., Concerning the Plague in Constantinople consists of letters sent by Dr. Mordach Mackenzie to his correspondents in London (Dr. Clephane and Dr. Mead) in which he described the prevalence and effects of various episodes of the plague. The Mackenzie letters are dated in 1750 and 1751. In early 1752, Dr. Clephane took the letters, adding his own comments and interpretations to an introductory section, and passed the resulting package to the Royal Society. The contents were read before the Society on March 5, 1752, and approved for publication in Vol. 47 of the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society For the Years 1751-1752.

We are offering this First Edition copy of the paper, as read before the Royal Society on March 5, 1751 and published in 1753 in the Philosophical Transactions, Vol. 47 For the Year 1751-1752, pages 384 to 395. The paper has been extracted and disbound from the volume. The booklet, which measures approximately 6 ¼ x 8 ½ inches, has pages that are tanned, but the text is clear and easily read. The overall condition of the paper, considering its age and being extracted from its original covers, is good.

The illustrations accompanying this description show the first page of the paper and a typical page of further text.
