About This Item

The Eye of the World Book One of the Wheel of Time series" by Robert Jordan (author of "The Great Hunt", "The Dragon Reborn", etc.) Hardcover First Edition - 17th Printing TOR Tom Doherty & Associates with $24.95 cover price on the dust jacket. Features stunning wrap-around artwork by the Darrel K. Sweet. Copyright 1990 with the printing number-line showing "19 18 17" on the copyright page which indicates a 17th printing, probably released in 1998 because it lists "Path of Daggers" as the latest books in the series which was released in 1998. (first printing copies in fine condition fetch about $2000+ because of the release of the new made-for-cable series).

Fine- in Fine- Dust Jacket. A nice copy with almost some discernible reading wear. Tiny hint of some natural aging to the text-block and a bit of shelf-wear to the top of the spine. The dust jacket is near perfect save some tiny nicks to the lower corners.

At this writing, no first printing copies appear to be available for sale probably because of the upcoming Amazon series. The closest is a 9th printing for about $500. First copies when they come up for sale be priced at $1500+. (One seller is living in fantasy with a signed 22nd printing copy for $5000!)

Note on Edition: The true first edition/first printing of "The Eye of the World" (first book of the Wheel of Time) was only printed in about 2000 copies and the rest were printed in trade paperbacks in 1990. (A few trade paperbacks were modified into hardcovers when demand was higher than expected.) The series went on to be immensely popular and "The Eye of the World" was reprinted numerous times in generally the same design throughout the 1990's. Jordan died before finishing the series. Fantasy writer Brandon Sanderson was asked by Jordan's family to finish the final volumes.

NOTE: All modern books with dust jackets come with dust jacket covers.

ALSO: The pictures are of the actual items for sale. (The pictures are NOT stock photos.)

IMPORTANT NOTE: All sales are generally FINAL. I do NOT accept returns because of buyer's remorse, "it was a gift but the recipient already had it", or "I found the same book(s) at a better price". I am not selling new items to compete with other retailers. Returns are only accepted because of significant discrepancies regarding edition and/or condition of which I try to be very thorough in researching the edition/printing as well as describing ALL condition issues. So make sure you're 100% positive you desire one of my items before making a purchase.

What a fantastic book! So much depth to the characters and this is written so well i found it impossible to put down. Robert Jordan has a way of pulling you in and making you visualize so clearly what is happening that its as if you yourself were there!

Great start to a great series! The mid books get bogged down in too many details, but the early books (and final ones, written by Brandon Sanderson based on Jordan's notes) are among the finest fantasy books in the modern era.

If Robert Jordan would have kept things on a MUCH shorter MUCH simpler level he might have had a great series. He would have been able to finish the books before his death at only 58. I only read the first three and I have since regretted it.
