Shakespeare Head, Sydney, 1957. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/Good. VI, 364 pages, last page blank, preface by author, foreword by J. Edgar Hoover, notes and index. 1/4 black coloured backstrip with gilt titles. 3/4 red coloured boards. Red coloured tint to the top text block edge. Softening to the head and to the heel of the backstrip and to the top book corners. Bumping and shelf wear to the top and bottom of book edges. Flecking of the cloth to the lower backstrip edge. Foxing to the top text block edge and fading of the red colouring of the top edge. Browning to the other text block edges. Browning and offset tanning to the endpapers and light age toning to the internal pages. Original bookseller's sticker to the lower left-hand corner of the front paste-down. Plain text dustwrapper with red, white and blue background with white, grey, black and red titles to the front panel and white, blue and black titles to the backstrip. Rubbing and chipping in to the dustwrapper corners and to the head of the backstrip. The lower quarter inch of the backstrip is missing and there is a 2.5" tear into the rear dustwrapper panel. Heavy rubbing and creasing to both the top and bottom dustwrapper edges. The white of the background has become yellow and shows quite significant rubbing marks. The history of the Federal Bureau of Investigation ( The F. B. I. ] from its setting up in the 1920s to the time of writing of the book. This is the first Australian edition.
