About This Item
New York: Crescent Books, 1991. Presumed First Edition thus. First printing [stated]. Hardcover. Very good/Very good. Quarto, 128 pages. Profusely illustrated (color). DJ has slight wear and soiling. Roy Braybrook is a highly regarded aviation writer who has worked in the aeronautical business for over thirty years. Having worked for Hawker Siddley Aviation from 1958, he became a full-time aviation writer upon leaving British Aerospace in 1980. Roy Braybrook has authored many titles for Osprey, including Osprey Aerospace: Soviet Combat Aircraft: The Four Generations. Provides technical information on the F/A-18 Hornet, and depicts the fighter planes in the air and on the ground with the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, the Navy Blue Angels aerobatic team, and the Canadian, Spanish, and Australian Air Forces. The "son" of the Northrop YF-17 Cobra, the Hornet grew both in weight and capability after being ordered by the Navy to replace the venerable Vought A-7 Corsair II. Now an integral part of the modern carrier wing, the F/A-18 has dramatically increased the capabilities of fighter and attack squadrons already embarked aboard the Navy's 15-strong carrier fleet. No all Hornets spotted in American skies are Navy property through, the "flying leathernecks" of the US Marine Corps having received their first F/A-18s at virtually the same time as the "blue water" force. Over a dozen USMC squadrons were now equipped the the versatile Hornet. Traveling further afield, Canada, Australia, Spain and South Korea have all chosen the F/A-18 to fulfill the fighter/attack requirements of their respective air forces past the year 2000. F/A-18 takes the reader aboard ship with a frontline Navy squadron as they patrol the barren expanses of the Atlantic, or takes the reader on a scrub skimming attack sortie of the parched wastelands of the "outback" with the Royal Australian Air Force.
