About This Item

London: Ward, Lock and Co, 1880. Decorative Cloth. Very Good +. Ernest Vizetelly. An attractive, well-preserved copy of the uncommon 1880 1st edition. Tight and VG+ in its dark-blue cloth, with wonderful gilt-tableaux and titling along the front panel and spine. Very light staining along the bottom of the fore-edge, very mild rubbing at the panels. 12mo, "one hundred illustrations, chiefly from sketches by Ernest Vizetelly" (the author's brother), charming period ads (all wine-related) to the preliminary and rear pages. Fascinating history of the Portuguese wines Port and Madeira.
