Half title, Title, xv, 300, (21), (bl.), (1), (1)pp. 6 folding engraved plates. Later half calf, marbled boards, spine in six compartments, leather label, gilt lettering, rules and embellishment. Minor corner chips to half-title. Short closed fold tear to Plate I. Toned with some light offsetting of plates, foxing/browning to index.
This edition has an additional plate to the 1790 edition, plus additional material. The plates are each dated September 1, 1805. Significant to the library of the vine. A handsome volume.

Walter Herries (or Harris) was a pamphleteer who participated in the first Darien "adventure." Upon his return to England, he was offered inducements by English politicians to write a book that would ruin the reputation of the members of the Darien Company. His book was "Declared by a royal proclamation to be a 'false, scandalous, and traitorous libel'."

This book, attributed to Ridpath, is an answer to Herries's book, and an attack on English politicians. Ridpath was a Scottish journalist who wrote and supported Whig interests against the Tories.

A paperback original. Book has been bound into hard cover boards with quarter leather by Dr. Arthur W. Weyesse in 1952. Boards are Very Good with small stain to front and edge and corner wear. Dancing Sandwiches and Brown stamped to spine. Book is Fine minus with age toning to pages and appears unread. Unusual item.

First printing of the Sidewinder edition, Fine, unread book in a Fine minus dust jacket that has very slight rubbing both panels. Note that spine of book is plain black cloth with no lettering. This was Hillerman's first mystery and it featured Joe Leaphorn, a Navajo Nation policeman. Introduction by Ernie Bulow of Buffalo Medicine Books. Dust jacket art and illustrations by Navajo artist Ernest Franklin. This copy has been signed
on the title page by Hillerman, Franklin, and Bulow. Laid-in is an explanation from Sidewinder regarding this new edition of Hillerman's first mystery.

The British and Foreign Bible Society, 1862. Hardcover. Good. Mid-19th century KJV English Bible printed by George E. Eyre and William Spottiswoode for the British and Foreign Bible Society in 1862. Bound in dark-brown leather with gilt "Holy Bible" to spine panel. Blind rulings and decorative elements to spine, front and back panels. Presumably a personal copy of prominent Seventh Day Adventist leader and pastor and later one of its most outspoken critics D. M. Canright. Inscription on front free endpaper reads: "R Deming Bible | Bought January 24, 1866 | of Elder Canright | Seventh day adventist | Price $3.00". Numerous additional inscriptions on endpapers, likely in Deming's hand. Unpaginated. 6 7/8" x 4 5/8". Tight copy with moderate shelf wear, slightly bumped corners and superficially split hinges (not affecting integrity of binding). Light staining to front pastedown and two preliminary blanks. A Fine, softcover booklet (5 ½ by 8 ½ inches, stapled at spine) of 16 pages, un-paginated, that preceded the considerably expanded hardcover version of 1990. Booklet covers fiction through A Thief of Time; Non-Fiction through Indian Country; Contributions to Books; Contributions to Periodicals; and a list of ten works about Hillerman. This bibliography was issued in only 100 numbered copies and was noted as: "A Gigantic Hound Keepsake, Tucson 4/100 1988" on the back panel. This is a very scarce Hillerman item that has been signed by Hillerman to the front cover, and by Hieb at end of his Introduction on the inside of front cover. Also included with the booklet are a Fine copy of the 1990 hardcover edition (not signed), and a Fine copy of the 1990 Univ. of Arizona 8 page pamphlet, On Collecting Hillerman
which has been signed by Hieb.
