About This Item
New York, NY Alfred A. Knopf: Borzoi Bks, 1923. Hardcover First Edition [1923], unstated. First Edition [1923], unstated. in accordance with Knopf's customary practice at the time of publication. Edition limited to 950 copies, but this copy is not numbered, nor this there a pastedown title slip at the front panel. Good+: Shows moderate use: mainly, shelving wear along the bottom edge of the crimson boards and some fairly heavy wear to the corner tips and head and heel of the backstrip; else mild rubbing to the panels and very faint, but pervasive soiling. The binding remains square and secure; the text is clean. Free of any ownership names, dates, addresses, notations, inscriptions, stamps, plates, or labels. Shows some wear, but remains structurally sound and tightly bound: a sturdy copy. Evidently originally possessed a slip-case, which is not present here. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. (9.35 x 6.25 x 0.5 inches). 66 pages. Translated from the German by Alfred B. Kuttner. Language: English. Rag-edged fore-edge. Some copies appear to have had a pastedown title plate at the front panel; this copy does not. Weight: 12 ounces. Hardback: Lacks DJ. Sternheim (1878- 1942) was a German playwright and short story writer, and an exponent of German Expressionism. Here he satirizes the middle class.
