About This Item

Boston, MA: Charles E. Brown, ND. Hardcover. black-&-white illustrations. pp. viii, 302.,8vo,,,First published as 'Jack Archer / A Tale of the Crimea' by Sampson, Low et al (London) in 1883. Newbolt 14. This is the American edition, issued under an altered title and likely published in 1892 or shortly thereafter. Bound in olive-yellow cloth with gilt design to the front board blocked within a black ruled border. Edges of text block stained brown. Endpapers coloured slate blue. With 16 full-page illustrations (tissue guard frontispiece, plus 15 in the text), as in the British edition, but without the battle-plans (not called for in the list of illustrations to this edition). Boards show light wear and some soiling. Front hinge starting (but still tight) and contents slightly shaken. A few marginal smudges, else text clean and tight. A good copy.
