About This Item
Francfort: Frans Rottenberg, 1688. First Edition. Hardcover (Full Leather). Very Good Condition. Later full burgundy morocco by Zaehnsdorf, hinges cracked and weakening, largish chip to spine, inner dentelles, marbled endpapers. First three pages chipped at the edges, small paper repair to page 5, scattered light foxing. 89, (3)pp. The first edition of a notorious book about the former wife of Moliere, a celebrated actress who started the Théatre Guénégaud. She married M. Guerin after the playwright's death which occasioned this embellished story. Despite the fact that it is often considered more a novel than history, much of the information was included in Moliere's various biographies. It went through a number of editions over the years, under a few different names - all the early ones are quite scarce. "la plus complete...et la plus belle" and "à la fin les Portraits en vers des comédiennes d'Hotel Guénégaud, qui manquent dans les autre éditions." Leber library 2245. Size: duodecimo (12mo). Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Category: Theatre & Plays; Biography & Autobiography. Inventory No: 045343.
