Philadelphia: Crissy & Markley, Printers, 1849. 12mo. 160 x 100 mm., [6 ¼ x 4 inches]. 144 pp. Bound in contemporary sheep, rubbed, simple leather repair to lower quarter of the spine; lightly foxed. Originally published in 1842, Pedder's book went through numerous editions well into the 1860's. It was considered one of the standard survey books of the period and was especially desirable for the measurement of larger parcels of land in the American west and became a tool for as farmers and settlers who pushed past the Mississippi River.
