New York: McLoughlin Bros, 1890. [RHYMING VERSE]. 12mo oblong; [8pp]; chromolithographed stiff wrapper; 2 staple binding; ownership in pencil on rear wrapper; text printed in sepia with accompanying illustrations; 4pp color illustrations; light rubbing of wrapper, front bottom corner has light crease, 1" split at bottom of folded spine; very good minus. OCLC locates 3 copies. A scarce McLoughlin Bros. children's book of illustrated rhyming text and short stories about animals. The illustration for the last story is signed W. H Shelton, possibly William Henry Shelton (1840-1890), a noted New York artist who illustrated Harper's and other monthly publications. The last story is about a dog at a railway station in Lewes, England. Raphael Tuck published a book of the same name around the same time and it is possible that some of the text or illustrations are "borrowed' from this English publisher.
