Fine binding in half-pebbled morocco over fine-grained gray cloth, light wear to extremities, bright ornate gilt titles and decoration to spine and covers and top page ends. Marbled endpapers with handsome bookplate of Hughson Hawley on verso on front pastedown. Binding is tight, pages are clean. Lacking 3 of the 4 maps called for in the map pocket; only the 22.5" square "Chart of North Polar Regions" is present, in Fine condition. The eight colored plates are all present. . Volume I only of Nansen's classic work. A handsome, scarce copy of this edition, published only one year after the first. . 8vo 8" - 9" tall. 587 pages. T1 .
