About This Item
Archibald Constable & Co, London, 1897. 1st edition. Hardcover. The first UK publication of Nansen's famous journey to try to reach the North Pole. Each volume is in fine or near-fine dark-green cloth with gilt spine lettering and front-cover vignettes, some light corner wear as expected. The pages are very clean, the endpapers lightly browned, the four maps are present at the rear of the volumes, the colour plates (16 in all) are present, as are the numerous black-and-white photographs, drawings and sketches in each book. An unusually nice set of this account of one of the greatest feats of Arctic exploration.
