Larry Brown (1951 - 2004) was an American novelist, non-fiction and short story writer. He won numerous awards, including the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters award for fiction, the Lila Wallace-Reader's Digest Award, and Mississippi's Governor's Award For Excellence in the Arts. He was also the first two-time winner of the Southern Book Award for Fiction. He has been compared to other Southern writers, including Cormac McCarthy, William Faulkner, and Harry Crews. In interviews and some of his essays, Brown cited these authors, along with Flannery O'Connor, Raymond Carver, and Charles Bukowski, as influences. 'Fay' is gritty and real. The narrative will stay with you long after you finish this book. The author, who is a sad loss to literature, tells a tale of empathy and inequality through a child/woman who has grown up the hard way with little knowledge of the wider world but who learns fast - very fast. The story is peppered with characters it's difficult not to feel for. This is a page turner in the tradition of Faulkner and McCarthy. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 490 pages .
