About This Item

A fine album of (26) original gold toned gelatin silver print photographs, 9" x 7", mounted on linen promoting Hotel Del Monte, the first true resort hotel in America. The first image has the photographer "Graham" credit in the negative. Includes landscape, architecture and the leisure activities offered by the hotel, including golfing, swimming, tennis, fishing and trap shooting. The photographs are artfully and professionally composed, reflecting the grandeur and luxury offered by the establishment. The cover is gilt embossed "The Enchanted Circle, Monterey Peninsula California." The title page contains a printed description espousing the virtues of the hotel. Each image has a title affixed to the facing page describing the photograph, the caption of the first image is printed on page, subsequent captions are on typed labels affixed to page. Some rubbing on covers. Spine is in fine condition.

The photographer, Julian P. Graham was an in-house photographer for Hotel Del Monte. He was a successful commercial photographer in the Monterey/Pebble Beach area. He owned and operated a photo studio out of the Del Monte Hotel from 1922 to 1944.
