Rosalind Hawkins heads to San Francisco, after the death of her father and loss of the family fortune, to be a nanny to children. But, when she arrives finds there are no children, just and immaculately run household with a mysterious owner; but, despite misgivings she decides to stay, and, at night reads to her mysterious host in Greek, Latin French and German. Her host, Jason Cameron, a alchemist, tested an old French werewolf transformation recipe and failed, and he is now a werewolf all the time.
