Pictorial endpapers showing the State Museum model of Denver in 1860. New plastic covering to DJ. Unmarked text. 624 pp with acknowledgements, bibliography and index. Foreword by Gene Fowler. illustrated with 32 pages of photographs. Perkins chronicles the history of a great western city and its newspaper, from the early pioneer days of the Rocky Mountains with its mountain settlers, Indian marauders, Horace Greeley, the new railroads and famous American journalists like Damon Runyon and Lowell Thomas. Tales of corrupt politics, wide-open gambling towns, and colorful eyebrow-raising events in a time where newspapermen usually kept a six-shooter on his desk!
