About This Item
(Himeville: Himeville Museum, 2007, revised 2nd edition). 295 x 211 mm; laminated pictorial wrappers; pp. (ii) + 160, incl. index; liberally illustrated with photographs and artwork. Small scuff to tail of spine; earlier owner's name signed on first page. Near-fine condition. Well-researched local history, originally published to coincide with the centenary of the southern Drakensberg district surrounding Underberg and Himeville. "The first part records as far as can be established those who took up properties from the 1880's in the old iPolela District and later the Underberg - Himeville District up to the year 1910, and those families who continued to farm and live there. A final addition has been made to record the present farm owners, thus naming the first farmers of the period and the last to come in the hundred years. The second part aims at giving basic details of all organisations which have functioned here up to the year 1987. These include the Churches, Missions, Government and Provincial Offices and Services, Farming, Commercial Enterprises, Community Services, Associations, Societies and Clubs of all kinds." - From the Editor's Note. .
