Limited Editions Club, New York, 1958. Hardcover. Book Condition: Fine. Various (illustrator). Special Edition. The First night Gilbert and Sullivan containing, Complete Librettos of the Fourteen Operas, exactly as presented at their premiere performance; together with facsimiles of the first night programs, which are contained in a separate clam shell box. This spectacular collection is edited, with a prologue and copious descriptive particulars, by Reginald Allen; and a foreword by Bridget D'oyly Carte. Book is illustrated on almost every page with " contemporary drawings. Book is quarter bound in red valor over green boards with gilt flourishes. The fine spine label is gilt over a green medallion. There is a large clam shell box filled with a complete set of opening night programs ( in facsimile), assembled for the first time , that are historic and incredibly interesting.This is a wonderful collectible, especially for theater buffs and collectors who love theater history. Publishers slip case is in good repaired condition. Limited to 217/1500 copies.
