The second, the facsmile, is full silk brocade in dark blue with gilt decoration woven by Stephen Walters and Sons, Suffolk; all edges gilt. These are both laid in a blue solander box with decorative gilt lettering to the spine. Minimal marks to the boards of the commentary, otherwise all in near fine condition, clean and bright. A perfectly rendered facsimile of a profusely illustrated Flemish book of hours dated around 1510, containing 63 full page gilded colour illustrations and intricately illustrated borders filled with birds, insects and flowers on every page. Rare original poetry book with cloth covered boards, copyright 1880 by J. W. Shoemaker & Co. This edition published in 1906 by the Penn Publishing company, Philadelphia. From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns. Light rubbing and bumps to outside spine edges. Back cover and interior cloth covered board has a stain at top. Original owner's name and address from 1908, but no other writing or marks.
