Die Textfassung hält sich - bis auf die vorsichtig modernisierte Interpunktion - an die Große Weimarer Ausgabe von 1888. - "Goethes Buch Suleika" war das erste einer Reihe von Peiffer Watenphul und G. de Beauclair lang geplanten gemeinsamen künstlerischen Projekte, denen zwischen 1967 und 1969 noch drei lithographische Mappen folgen sollten. Das Gedicht "Gingo Biloba" mit eingelegtem Ginkgo-Blatt (leichter Abklasch, beidseitig im Bund). - Max Peiffer Watenphul (1896-1976), dt. Maler, von den Nationalsozialisten geächtet (siehe: Ausstellung "Entartete Kunst" in München). Sehr schönes Exemplar.

1691 Japanese Handwritten Noh Play Theater Mask Demons Warrior Japan Shimogakari

An interesting Edo woodblock-print of 'Noh Chant Collections' from the early 17th century. Noh chants were adopted from Buddhist prayers and went with the musical background of Noh plays, which to this day is one of the most important performing arts in Japan. Noh plays borrowed from other arts with masks, music, and even structure. A normal Noh piece has five plays, god, warrior, woman, living person, and demon, which are all grouped into three dramatic units.
This rare four volume collection from 1691 is written in a column handwritten format with furigana usage for easier reading!

Swinburne, printed on Antique Japanese. The engravings for the first edition were reworked as silhouettes in the second edition. Privately printed by Stols for the collector Baron Emile van der Borch van Verwolde. Light foxing to margins, One sheet with creasing and one sheet with a small closed tear to lower edge. The second edition of Dolores was limited to 40 copies. 9 engravings measure 10 x 5 cm., the head- and tailpieces measure 5 x 5 cm. Sheets are 25 x 16 cm. The tailpiece of a female nude with three ravens refers to the coat-of-arms of Emile, Baron van der Borch van Verwolde. Very rare. .
