London: MacMillan & Co, 1868. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo., xi(1)328pp. plus 2 pages of publisher's ads in the rear. Sharp First Edition of this "Third Series", (there were a total of four). Prettily bound in publisher's original blue cloth with blind-stamped border and mother and child vignette stamped in gilt on front board, titles in gilt on spine. t.e.g. Line engraving on title page by Charles Henry Jeens, 17 wood-cuts illustrations by james Cooper. Square, tight and clean throughout with little or no foxing. Fairly mild wear to tips, edges and spine ends. Light soiling. A very petty, sound collectable copy.
