This Author's Copyright Edition" circa 1874-79 is undated. The embossed red cover boards are printed with black lettering and gold on the spine. The illustration on the front cover is repeated again after page 296. There is slight bumping on the corners and spine ends.The pages are secured by the binding. The text block is clean, unmarked and foxed. There is a coloured plate on the frontis and two color plates near the end. Front endpaper inscribed as gift from Grandmother. 300 pp

Five Weeks in a Balloon, or, Journeys and Discoveries in Africa by Three Englishmen is an adventure novel by Jules Verne. It is the first Verne novel in which he perfected the "ingredients" of his later work, skillfully mixing a plot full of adventure and twists that hold the reader's interest with passages of technical, geographic, and historic description.
