About This Item
The Flemings in Oxford by J. R. Magrath, Three Volume Set
Hardback, ex-library, published by the Oxford Historical Society, first editions.
Volume 1, 1650-1680, published 1904 (though 1903 stated on spine)
Volume 2, 1680-1690, published 1913
Volume 3, 1691-1700, published 1924
The Flemings in Oxford : being documents selected from the Rydal papers in illustration of the lives and ways of Oxford men 1650-1700, edited by John Richard Magrath.
Octavo/8vo. Each book measures around 8 7/8" by 5 7/8" (thicknesses vary). Blue cloth boards and spines. A little discolouration on spines but board colour still quite vivid and gilt detail very clear on spines. Library reference letters written on spines of volumes 1 and 2. Oxford Historical society emblem to front boards with gilt detail still clear on volumes 1 and 2 but rubbed off for volume 3. Signs of shelf-wear to edges of boards and spines, with corners a little bumped. Some marks and scuffs to boards but reasonably clean. Gilt upper edges to first and second volumes. Outer edges of volumes 1 and 2 deckled and a little jagged in places, showing signs of having been cut, but quite neat in spite of this. Volume 2 has many leaves that are unopened. Being ex-library books, there are library stamps, written reference numbers, cards, etc. A little tanning to pages. Foxing to endpapers of first volume. Otherwise, page surfaces clean, odd marks here and there but no underlining, marginalia, etc. See pictures for further information. A nice, rare set.
