London: Frederick Warne & Co., 1905. New edition, revised by Edward Step, F.L.S.. Hardcover. Otherwise very good condition. Illustrated with 315 colored plates figuring upwards of 1500 species. Pratt [1806 - 1893] was one of the best known English botanical and ornithological illustrators and authors of the Victorian age.
4 volumes published in different years, small 4to, v1 269pp (1899) , v2 279pp (1905), v3 258pp (1905), v4 215pp (1900), blue decorated cloth binding, embossed design on front cover, with gilt titles on spine and front. Color plates throughout. OCLC 499929334 lists the 1st volume 1899 and vols. 2-4 of the 1905 edition. Covers dusty, rubbed at edges and spine tips. Some foxing on first and last pages, not affecting plates or text. In vol. 4 plate 305 listed twice. A very pleasant readable copy.
