Very small (c. 1cm across) manufacturer's flaw or abrasion to cloth on spine. Folio (20.2 x 29.3cm). Top edges gilt, other edges deckled. Marbled endpapers by the Compton Press. With original deep blue paper covered slipcase in Near Fine condition, very minor crease near base. Title page printed in blue & black. Parallel English and Chinese texts, with Chinese calligraphy by Ch'eng Hsuan and English translations versified by Alan Ayling from translations by Duncan MacKintosh in collaboration with T'ung Ping-Cheng. Illustrated throughout by Fei Ch'eng Wu. Notes and index to rear. One of a limited edition of 200 copies printed by John & Rosalind Randle and Charles Lowndes at the Whittington Press, of which this is no. 100. Signed by both Alan Ayling and Duncan MacKintosh on colophon. Printed in Caslon type on Wookey Hole handmade paper and bound by Hunter & Foulis, Edinburgh, using cloth supplied by celebrated textile firm Warner and Sons.
