Hartford: American Publishing Company, 1897. First Edition. Near Fine. First issue, with signature mark "11" on page 161; octavo, 712 pages. Original blue pictorial cloth, designed by Frank Berkeley Smith (1869-1916), depicting an elephant with colors of gray, tan, blue and gilt; spine fully decorated in gilt. An exceptional copy, very good+ to near fine; a tight copy, internally clean and bright, with no markings of any kind; small owner bookplate on front pastedown.

Synopsis

Following the Equator (American English title) or More Tramps Abroad (English title) is a non-fiction travelogue published by American author Mark Twain in 1897. Twain was practically bankrupt in 1894 due to a failed investment into a "revolutionary" typesetting machine.
