[6], 7-712, [2] pp. Blue cloth with gilt titling and decorations on the spine, inset blue and pink decoration of an elephant on the front board. Illustrated by a frontispiece photograph of Mark Twain and by numerous in-text and full page illustrations (illustrations are drawings, photographs, and wood engravings). The first printing of the first American edition. BAL 3451. An account of Twain's travels around the British empire, expressing his disdain for the racism and religIous intolerance of the time. A very handsome copy. A beautiful Near Fine book with a small tear to the top of the dedication page.
Synopsis
Following the Equator (American English title) or More Tramps Abroad (English title) is a non-fiction travelogue published by American author Mark Twain in 1897. Twain was practically bankrupt in 1894 due to a failed investment into a "revolutionary" typesetting machine.
