A FORMA DA CIDADE DE ORIGEM PORTUGUESA

Considered individually, the morphological characteristics of the cities of Portuguese origin can be found in other historical and geographical contexts, although they all appear to be articulated in its Lusitanian culture. Such characteristics have evolved over time as the multiple influences from other cultures on the Portuguese culture, which are still noticeable in links that relate the various forms and conceptions of the city that result from it. From the analysis of the historical period from the foundation of the Portuguese nationality in the 12th century until the end of the 18th century, this work seeks to identify these relationships and influences, as well as the main characteristics of the Portuguese urban structures and how they developed and established all over their world. The author concludes that the specificities of Portuguese origin refer to various aspects such as cultural heritages in the European and outside Europe (Brazil, Africa, Indian Ocean and the East) context, the logical choice for location, the implementation of urban centers, their relationship to the physical characteristics of the territory, the and geometrical structures underlying the plans, squares and their role in the urban organization and the structures of pieces of land and city blocks.
O urbanismo português reflete a história do urbanismo europeu e, ao mesmo tempo, afirma sua especificidade por suas características de forma e processos que são eminentemente portugueses. Ele é o resultado de múltiplas experiências, processos de troca e influências recíprocas levados a cabo em Portugal, no Brasil, na África, no Índico e no Oriente, em que participaram populações e técnicos de várias origens. O Brasil desempenhou um papel importante na inovação de formas e de processos que deles resultaram e que vieram a fazer parte integrante de sua cultura urbana.
