Boston: The Boston Athenaeum. Printed by the Robert Charles Billings Fund, 1926. First Edition. Hardcover. Good +. Octavos. Three volumes. Volume I: [1], viii, 338 pages, [1]. Volume II: [2], viii, pages 339-690, [2]. Volume III: xx, pages 691-1103, [1]. Volume I includes tipped in slip "Caution to owners of Volumes One and Two..." Illustrated with frontispiece engravings and numerous portrait engravings in the text. Dark blue cloth hardcovers with gilt titles and gilt illustrated Boston Athenaeum seal on the front covers. Gilt titles on the spines. Top edges gilt. Untrimmed foredge volume I. Light wear to the covers and extremities. Some toning to the end sheets and light scattered foxing to the text. Previous owner name located in the upper corner of the front paste downs. This set was signed and inscribed by the author on the front blank end sheet of volume 1.
